Family - Sock Monster
This Monster is just the thing for grabbing what you want, while being able to blame someone else!
1. Take a clean, non-smelly sock...holes don't really matter, as these give a Monster a bit of character, though they can be stuck together or sewn up as you go along if they really get in the way!
The Monster's Eyes
2. Select the eyes you want for your Monster. You can use buttons or cut out circles of white fabric and colour in black centres, or buy proper toy's eyes from a craft or fabric shop.
3. Experiment with different positions before you sew them on, just to see what sort of expression you like best. You can place them as high or low as you want.
4. With some grown up help sew or glue on the eyes. If you are using glue, make make sure it is strong glue and that a grown up helps so that you don't stick together anything that shouldn't be (such as your fingers...!)
The Monster's Mouth
5. Stick or sew the Monster's tongue on to the tip of the toe (this will become the inside of the monster's mouth when your hand is inside)...A red or pink (or any colour you like) feather is good, or a strip of material or felt would also do the trick.
6. You can also add teeth or fangs to your Monster if you want to make him look extra scary! You could perhaps cut some teeth out of fabric and glue or sew them to the top and bottom of the Monster's mouth.
The Monster's Head
7. Monster hair can be made from wool or raffia or cut up strips of fabric, and sewn on to the heel of the sock.
8. You can also add a decorative head dress, like this Monster is wearing...we used coloured pipecleaners, but ribbon or scarves or brightly-coloured wrapping string would also look great!
