John Rankin Sweeps the Board!

8 Dec 2006

Two pupils from John Rankin Junior School, Mia Tyson (pictured right) and Felice Burdett Ward (centre), both Year Fours, are celebrating this week after their pictures won the October and November children’s virtual art gallery competitions on www.funkyangel.co.uk, the website for the 21st Century Family.

The girls won one month after the other after fighting off stiff competition from other entries from as far afield as Brighton, Stockport, Scotland, Belgium and France!

Mia’s picture, ‘The Nibbler’, romped home to win October’s Gallery by 38 votes, while Felice’s picture, ‘The Funky Blonde’, won November’s Gallery by 31 votes. The voting is open to anyone who visits the website, which gets thousands of visitors each month, but the website’s software only allows one vote per computer (including those of staff) so there can be no cheating!

The voting is electronically monitored by the website’s Content Management System (run by Eonicweb in Tunbridge Wells), the votes are immediately electronically collated and the current voting is then displayed on a computer-generated graph in the Gallery once you have voted...so it’s easy to see who is winning!

The website also provides free ecards of the children’s art for them to send to tell their friends and families that they are taking part.

The headmistress of John Rankin, Miss Susan Brown, is pictured here with Mia (right) and Felice after awarding them their prizes, t-shirts specially printed with their winning artwork, in school assembly on Friday.

“It’s marvellous that John Rankin beat entries from right across Europe!” She said. "I just hope we do as well in the InterSchool Competition!"

Children’s art can be entered individually in the Monthly Art Gallery or via schools in the InterSchool Gallery Competition at www.funkyangel.co.uk.
