i was interested to note that this month it's "Safer Internet Day", which apparently is in its 6th year and is the result of the European Union funding activities at national and European levels to promote the safer use of the Internet and other online technologies since 1999.

A new Safer Internet Programme has been just been adopted for the period 2009-2013 with a budget of 55 million euro. There's lots of info about it on the Insafe website.

In summary it seems to be that with more kids going online than ever before, the initiative promises to provide practical online safety advice to young people and their parents.

So has anyone been involved/read about it/got any views? Are there any key points we should be aware of?

I am so for Internet safety and anything that promotes it. I think we have to be careful though that Internet safety does not become a spy on your children campaign or similarly that we do scare Parents into thinking that the internet is unsafe.

To me it is all about communication and common sense. Talk to your children - what a concept!

Here is an article I wrote in anyone is interest :-)
